Estonia Work Permit and Work visa 2026

Today’s chapter— in today’s chapter, we will talk about the work permit. What is the process to apply for a work permit? We will give you a step-by-step guide on how you can apply if you want to come to Estonia on the basis of work. If you want to come here and settle here, then let’s start the chapter.
To get a work permit, you must have a job here. You can apply for a job through LinkedIn, CV.ee, or CV Keskus. So basically, there are three to four rounds in job interviews. The first is the HR round, then they send you a test, then there is another interview, and finally they give you an offer. You must tell HR in the very first round that you are not living in Estonia and you will need a work permit from your own country to come here. Some companies already mention on their website whether you can apply or not.
Mostly, in some companies it is easy and in some companies it is a bit difficult. The company has to send a letter to the PBGB saying that this person is the applicant and they need him. PBGB gives a decision within two weeks and provides the work permit paper for you. And then on your side, you have to apply for a visa by going to the embassy.
There are two types of visas— one is the C visa and one is the D visa. C visa is the short-term visa, which we call the Schengen visa. The second is the D visa, which is a long-term visa up to nine months, you can apply for up to nine months of validity, and in some cases up to one year.
The C visa, which is the short-term visa, is up to three months. Its main purpose is travel, or if you are coming for family reunion, if a family member lives here, or if you are visiting family or friends, or just coming for a visit. But in this case, if you are applying for a work permit, then you must apply for the D visa because you will be staying here for a longer time, you are not coming here just for a visit.
And when you are going to apply for the D visa, you have to fill the D visa form. In that, all your information— first name, last name, your previous experience, and what you are doing right now— everything must be filled out. And your purpose of visit will be work, not study visa or tourist visa.
They will also ask who your employer is, when you are starting, and all information must be filled correctly, because sometimes even a small mistake can get your visa rejected. So you must fill everything very carefully. After filling the D visa form, you submit it to the embassy.
Mostly in Estonia, getting a work permit for IT jobs is not very difficult because many companies here provide work permits for skilled workers. But for non-skilled workers, it is very difficult to apply for a work permit here. In some cases, like restaurant businesses, if the business owner wants to bring someone from India, then they apply for that person’s work permit.
Now let’s talk about documents. First of all, you must have a passport and its validity must be at least three months, only then you can apply for your visa. Second is a digital photo together with your application form—the D visa form you filled with all the information. You must fill it properly and attach a digital photo with it.
Third is travel insurance, and the coverage capacity of the travel insurance must be up to 30,000 euros. You can easily get it from many websites, so that is not a problem. After that, you pay your fees and you can successfully apply for your visa.
And lastly, proof of funds. If you are coming here, who will cover your expenses? Where will your funds come from? If your employer will take care of all your expenses, then you do not need to attach your bank statement. But if they are not covering it, then you must attach your last three months’ bank statements, and you must show how much money you have in your savings account.
Different countries have different requirements. If you want to come to Estonia, you must have 70 euros per person per day in your account for the number of days you are coming—if you are coming on a C visa. If you are coming on a D visa, and your employer is arranging everything for you based on a work permit, then this requirement does not apply.
So this was about the work permit. We want to tell you one more thing: if any agents tell you that they will give you a work permit for 11 lakh or 12 lakh or anything like that, then please do not believe them. If you are a skilled worker and you want to work here and settle here, then apply for jobs on LinkedIn, CV.ee, or CV Keskus yourself. Clear their whole process and then you can apply yourself. You don’t need anyone. Do not waste your time and money on agents to apply for this visa.
